A Facebook Group is a great way to find your target group, promote discussion about your niche while showcasing your business and expertise.

Groups are for:

• Serious discussion forums
• Virtual petitions
• To support a cause
• Sharing photos & video
• Mass Messaging members of an organization

Anyone can create a group around any topic.

Group Properties:

• Only visible to Facebook users not to the wider internet
• Users join and post messages to the wall or in discussion forum
• Group Admin is visible to all members and visitors
• Admin can send messages to all group members

Types of Groups:

• Open – anyone can join, visible to all members of Facebook
• Closed – admin has to approve members, visible only to invited members
• Secret – only members & invitees know group exists

Once the Group reaches the 5000 email threshold you can no longer message everyone in the group however you can migrate the Group members to a Facebook Page (see Facebook Page Help area to find out how)

All group activities (wall posts, posted items, discussion threads, photo uploads, video uploads) go out into the News feed of each member. This creates viral visibility therefore it is in your best interests to encourage group members to interact with all features for maximum exposure. Groups are better than Pages for viral marketing as any member can bulk invite their friends; with Facebook Pages the administrator cannot bulk message fans.

Facebook Events can be used to create event pages for launches, openings or any other online or offline event then invite fans along. They can accept or decline or “maybe” your invitation and reminders of events will come up on their Facebook home page.
